Colonels Dominate Austin Peay on Sunday, Complete Sweep Over Govs

EKU Wins in 11-3 Run Rule Fashion

RICHMOND, Ky. – In the 86th meeting between EKU and Austin Peay, the Colonels complete an 11-3 run-rule victory in five innings for the three-game sweep over its long-time rival on Sunday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.

With the win, EKU (32-5, 14-1 ASUN) has now won seven consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference series dating back to the tail end of the 2022 season, four of the series wins have been sweeps and the Colonels have won all five series this season.

Additionally, the win moves EKU to a .865 winning percentage on the season, which ranks fourth in the country behind Oklahoma, Duke, and Boston University.  EKU moves to 67-19 all-time over Austin Peay with this weekend's results.

Jasmine Miller led the Colonels going a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with four runs batted in, including a 2-run homer to invoke the 8-run mercy rule after five innings of play.

Battering partner Maggie Pertee also had a three-hit performance, going 3-for-4 on the day with a triple and two runs scored.  Seven of EKU's 11 batters recorded at least one hit in the win.

Freshman pitcher Victoria Byrum (6-1) earned the win going 3.2 innings with one strikeout.  The Lakewood, California native allowed three runs in her ninth collegiate start.

EKU opened Sunday's game with five runs in the bottom of the first off singles from Miller, Makayla Mathis, and Madison Scott.  Vianna Barron brought in the home team's fifth run off a sacrifice fly to deep left field.

Despite a Governor run in their next at-bat, EKU padded three runs in the home half of the second and third innings, extending its lead to 8-1.

Austin Peay scored two runs in the top of the fourth, scratched by a Pertee triple, marking a 9-3 Colonel lead.

EKU ended the competition in the bottom of the fifth as Miller knocked a 2-run homer to left that resulted in the 8-run rule after five innings.  EKU won back-to-back games in the series with walk-off hits.
