Colonels Drop Series Opener As Nunnally Makes Quest For Cycle

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Freshman Tait Nunnally had a triple, home run and single in his first three at bats but came up a double short of the cycle in Eastern Kentucky University's 9-8, 10-inning, loss to Lipscomb in the Atlantic Sun Conference series opener on Friday.

Nunnally's triple in the first scored Justin Carinci and staked EKU to a 1-0 lead.  Colby Ott's ground ball was enough to get Nunnally home and make it 2-0 after the first half inning.

The Pell City, Alabama stepped to the plate with a runner on in the second and lifted a home run over the wall in right center, pushing the Colonels out in front by a 5-0 margin.  It was his eighth homer of the season.

EKU scored two more runs in the third to take a 7-0 led.  Freshman Elijah Underhill had an RBI double.  Two home runs in the bottom half of the third allowed the Bisons to close the gap to 7-3.  Austin Kelly hit a 2-run shot over the wall in right field.

Freshman Bradley Stewart started for the Colonels and pitched a career-high three innings while striking out a career-best five batters.  He allowed three runs on three hits and walked two.

Nunnally singled to start the fourth inning.  He was retired for the first time on a ground out in the sixth.  He singled again in the eighth.

Kelly hit another 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, getting Lipscomb within 7-5.  His third round tripper of the game came in the seventh with two outs and two runners on, and gave the home team an 8-7 lead.

Max Williams tied it up in the top half of the eight with a run scoring single to left center.  The Bisons pushed across the winning run in the 10th on Mason Lundgrin's bases loaded single through the right side.

Nunnally finished 4-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs.  Santiago Peralta went 2-for-4 with a run and two driven in.

Kelly had a 3-for-5 day with three runs and seven RBIs to go with his three home runs.
