EKU Picks Up Road Win At Dayton

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio –
DJ Sullivan hit two home runs in the first three innings to lead Eastern Kentucky University to a 10-8 victory over Dayton on Tuesday at AES Ohio Stadium.

Dayton jumped out to an early lead.  Nolan Watson drew a bases loaded walk to plate the first run.  With two outs, Paxton Tomaini brought home two more with a single through the left side for a 3-0 lead.

Sullivan's second home run of the season got EKU on the board in the second inning.  He sent a ball sailing over the right field wall with a runner on base.  Colby Ott tied the game, 3-3, later in the inning when he scored on a Dayton fielding error.  Another 2-out run scored on a single from Justin Carinci that gave the visitors a 4-3 edge.  After a single from Conner Davis, Max Williams tripled to the gap in left center to score two more runs.

Sullivan hit another home run in his second trip to the plate.  His solo shot to start the third extended EKU's lead to 7-3.  Back-to-back RBI doubles from Tait Nunnally and Davis in the third inning pushed the margin to 9-3.

The Flyers closed to within four on Mason Dobie's 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.  Dayton made it a 9-7 game in the bottom of the fifth when Alejandro Cazorla hit an RBI double to left center and then later scored on a wild pitch.  Dobie's RBI double up the middle in the sixth made it a 1-run game, 9-8.

A solo home run by Ron Franklin Jr. in the top of the seventh allowed the Colonels to move back in front by two, 10-8.  It was his 12th of the season.

Joe Clancy retired the side in order in the ninth for his third save of the season.
