RICHMOND, Ky. – Freshman
Maddi Rutan threw her eighth complete game and sixth shutout of the season as EKU completed a three-game sweep over Stetson by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.
Rutan (16-2) went 7.0 innings with five strikeouts, only allowing two hits in the first six innings of play.
With the win, EKU (29-5, 11-1 ASUN) completed its sixth consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference series victory dating back to the 2023 season.
With a win next time out, the Colonels would secure win No. 30 for the 12th time in program history and the first time since 2021 when EKU won its third conference championship.
On Sunday, EKU totaled three hits coming from
Vianna Barron,
Sharyn Duncan, and
Madison Scott. The Colonels reached base eight times, six were left on base.
Stetson (12-27, 3-9 ASUN) recorded two of its four hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rutan forced the Hatters into two fly outs and a pop out to
Lilly Davis to secure the win.
The Hatters totaled four hits, three of the four came from the top half of the lineup. Starter Lauren Hobbs earned the loss going 3.0 innings with two hits, one run, one walk, and two strikeouts.
