Colonels Complete Midweek Sweep Of Marshall With Road Win

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
A 2-1 victory on Wednesday in Huntington, West Virginia gave Eastern Kentucky University a midweek sweep of Marshall.
 
The Colonels beat the Thundering Herd 12-5 on Tuesday in Richmond.
 
EKU (14-31) got on the board in the top of the third inning when Ron Franklin Jr. extended his hitting streak to 12 straight games with an RBI double to left center.  EKU made it 2-0 in the fourth after Tait Nunnally started the inning with a triple and then scored on a ground ball.
 
The game remained 2-0 until the eighth when Tre Hondras cut the deficit in half for Marshall (13-31) with a sacrifice fly.
 
With one on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Cam Harthan singled to left field, but Kebler Peralta was caught in a rundown after over-running second base for the second out.  After an intentional walk, reliever Garrett Langrell got a ground ball to end the game.
 
Freshman Elijah Underhill (2-2) started for the Colonels and turned in the best performance of his young career.  He allowed just two hits in a career-high three innings.  The Hopkinsville, Kentucky native also struck out a career-best four batters and walked just one while not allowing a run.
 
Junior Isaac Milburn pitched the next 3 2/3 innings without allowing a run.  He gave up two hits, walked two and struck out four.  Langrell earned his fourth save of the season after pitching the ninth.
 
Seven different Colonels had one hit each.  Franklin finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Nunnally went 1-for-4 with a run scored.  Silas Shaffer was 1-for-4 with an RBI as well.
 
Harthan had three of Marshall's five hits, going 3-for-5.
 
EKU is set to host Bellarmine for three games this weekend.  Friday's series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m.
