Baseball Season Ends With Loss To Lipscomb In ASUN Tournament

Box Score

DELAND, Fla. –
The baseball season came to an end for Eastern Kentucky University with a 10-0 loss to Lipscomb on Wednesday at the 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in DeLand, Florida.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, a double from Mason Lundgrin and a single through the left side off the bat of Trace Willhoite pushed across the first run of the game and gave the Bisons (22-33) a lead they would never relinquish.  With two outs in the fourth, David Coppedge hit a solo home run to make it 2-0.

The damage for the Colonels (21-37) was lessened by two throws from freshman Elijah Underhill in right field.  After his RBI single in the third, Willhoite tried to score from second on a base hit to right.  Underhill came up throwing and connected with freshman catcher Silas Shaffer to nail the runner at the plate.  Before the home run by Coppedge in the fourth, Parks Bouck doubled to right center but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple, with Underhill connecting through cut-off man Justin Carinci.

Lipscomb starter Hayden Frank (2-0) pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out eight.

A pair of bases loaded walks added two runs in the sixth for the Bisons.  Five more in the seventh put the game out of reach.

When senior Bryce Travis came on to pitch in the seventh, he broke program records for appearances in a season (34th) and career (108th).  The previous marks were held by Jacob Abbott (33 in 2021) and Robert Teague (107 from 1988-91).

Underhill, Max Williams, Justin Carinci and Miguel Larreal registered EKU's only four hits of the game.

Bouck had a 3-for-3 game with two walks and two runs scored for the Bisons.  Coppedge was 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs.
