Colonels Add Former Top-100 National Recruit

RICHMOND, Ky. – Mayar Wol, a top-100 national recruit coming out of high school, will join the Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball team after one season at the College of Charleston.

Wol, a 6-foot-8 forward, was ranked as the 90th-best player in the country by 247sports coming out of Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina.  He held offers from Clemson, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Cincinnati before joining the program at the College of Charleston.

"Mayar is extremely skilled and can play multiple positions," said EKU Head Coach A.W. Hamilton.  "His length defensively will be disruptive and allow us to play even faster.  With his size and length, he will be a mismatch nightmare."

As a true freshman at Charleston in 2023-24, Wol played in 22 games.

Wol hit three 3-pointers last season, the first coming at Coastal Carolina.  He grabbed a season-best seven rebounds against Montreat and tied his season-high with five points.  In two minutes of action against Alabama in the NCAA Tournament, Wol grabbed one rebound and attempted one shot.

EKU won the 2023-24 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Championship, the program's first regular season conference title in 45 years.  Hamilton was chosen as the ASUN Coach of the Year and the NABC District III Coach of the Year.  He is the first coach in program history to be named conference coach of the year twice.
