RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University football team had its final tune-up ahead of the 2024 season on Saturday night at the annual Colonel Fan Day presented by Meijer.
"It was a great time tonight," said head coach
Walt Wells. "We're thankful for everyone in Colonel Nation who came out tonight to support us. It's always special for us as a team to perform in front of them… we can't wait to see them back here in a few weeks!"
It was an offensive explosion to start things off in the scrimmage, as quarterback
Matt Morrissey hit
Bryant Johnson Jr., on a 45-yard bomb for a touchdown on just the second play from scrimmage.
Not long after, Morrissey found
Marcus Calwise Jr., on a 25-yard touchdown pass over the middle as the freshman wideout dragged his feet for another score, before
Telly McCallister converted a two-point conversion with a run off the right side.
Later in the scrimmage,
Cameron Hergott connected with
Dequan Stanley on a 32-yard strike for another six-points.
The defense struck back quickly though, as linebacker
Kaden Smith snagged an interception, returning it 43-yards for a pick-six.
Hergott later found freshman wideout
T.J. Mitchell for another touchdown.
The fireworks ended with running back
Brady Hensley punching the ball in from three yards out for the final touchdown of the evening.
