CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Eastern Kentucky University lost to Atlantic Coast Conference foe Boston College, 3-1, on Saturday at the Boston College Invitational.

EKU will host the Geri Polvino Invitational (GPI) starting Friday at the Rick Erdmann Olympic Sports Training Center (OSTC). The invitational will include six matches over two days. The Colonels will face old rival Morehead State on Friday at 1 p.m. and Radford at 7 p.m. on Friday. EKU closes out the GPI on Saturday against Youngstown State at 1:30 p.m.

Sarah Mitchell had a team high 15 kills to go along with eight digs and an ace for the Colonels (1-2).Â
Madi Tolzman totaled nine kills and seven digs.Â
Carson Ledford finished with eight kills, a .333 attack percentage and three blocks.
Ledford earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Halle Schroeder and Audrey Ross both finished with 16 kills to lead Boston College (2-0).

EKU took a 3-2 lead in the first set off a Mitchell ace and an attack error by BC. However, the Eagles scored the next eight points to seize control. A Colonel error capped a 12-1 run for Boston College and made it 14-4. The home team took the opener 25-7.

The Colonels didn't fold. Down 11-10 in the second set, EKU went on a 10-3 run. Mitchell's kill and Ledford's ace finished it off and put the visitors ahead by six, 20-14. Ledford's kill finished off the set, 25-18, and tied the match 1-1.

Boston College scored the first three points of the third set and led the entire time on its way to a 25-16 win.

Down 18-12 in the fourth, EKU rolled off a 6-0 run to tie it up. The Eagles took match-point, 24-22 on a kill from Schroeder, but the Colonels scored two straight to stay alive. EKU went in front 26-25 on a BC attack error and tied it again at 28-28 on a kill from Mitchell. Boston College scored the next two points to win the set, 30-28, and the match.
