How It Happened
Morehead State got on the board first, converting a 31-yard field goal after recovering an EKU fumble at the Colonels' 33-yard line.
The game was delayed for over an hour and a half due to lightning, but EKU responded once play resumed, marching 81 yards on 10 plays to take the lead. Morrissey connected with Stanley for a 21-yard touchdown pass with 3:35 remaining in the first quarter, putting the Colonels up 7-3.
On Morehead State's next drive, Tisdale intercepted a deflected pass and returned it 23 yards to the Eagles' 22-yard line. Two plays later, Carter broke through the defense for a 14-yard touchdown, extending EKU's lead.
MSU responded with a field goal early in the second quarter, trimming the Colonels' lead to 14-10.
The EKU defense forced another turnover when Fletcher recovered a fumble following a bad snap by MSU, giving the Colonels' offense the ball at the Eagles' 26-yard line. Morrissey found Stanley in the end zone again two plays later, increasing the lead to 21-10 with 4:47 left in the half.
In the second half, EKU added three more touchdowns—all on the ground—including the first career scores for Latham and McCallister. MSU managed just one more field goal, while EKU's defense secured its third turnover when Smith intercepted an errant pass in the fourth quarter, setting up McCallister's touchdown.
