RICHMOND, Ky. – The Colonels had two match-points in the fifth set but couldn't put Atlantic Sun Conference preseason favorite Lipscomb away in a 3-2 loss on Friday at the Rick Erdmann Olympic Sports Training Center.

Emilee Hill recorded her second triple-double of the season, finishing with 11 kills, 12 digs and 28 assists for the Colonels (10-5, 1-1 ASUN). The sophomore setter also had four blocks.

Sarah Mitchell recorded 16 kills, made only two errors and had a .341 attack percentage for EKU.Â
AG Vandagriff added 13 kills and
Paige Wagers contributed eight blocks.

With the first set tied 4-4, Lipscomb (4-8, 1-0 ASUN) used a 7-2 run to seize control. A kill from Meg Mersman made it 11-6 in favor of the visitors. The Bisons went on to win the opener 25-19.

The Colonels were in danger of falling behind 2-0 after a kill from Courtney Jones gave Lipscomb a 23-21 lead in the second set. Moments later Jones gave her squad set-point, 24-23, with another kill. EKU answered with three straight, coming off a Lipscomb service error and two attack errors, to take the second 26-24.

EKU broke a 13-13 tie with a 6-2 run in the third. A kill from
Madi Tolzman capped it and gave the home team a 19-15 lead. Hill's kill ended the set, 25-19, and staked the Colonels to a 2-1 lead.

The Bisons scored seven of the first eight in the fourth set and never looked back. A kill from Cora ter Kuile made it 11-4. Lipscomb won 25-19 to tie the match 2-2.

It was the Colonels who got off to the quick start in the fifth, taking an 11-5 lead on a Lipscomb attack error. EKU had its first match-point, 14-13, after a kill from Tolzman. Hill's kill set up another match-point at 16-15. Jones started a run of three straight for the Bisons with a kill and capped it with a match-winning service ace.

Jones led all players with 28 kills. She hit .345 for the match. Karlie McNabb had 27 kills and a .533 attack percentage. Lipscomb finished with 24 more kills than the Colonels and posted a .346 attack percentage.

EKU out-blocked the Bisons 11-7 and took advantage of 19 Lipscomb service errors.

The Colonels will hit the road for a pair of conference matches next weekend, starting Friday at North Alabama. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
