Colonels Drop Doubleheader to Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team wrapped up the second leg of their season-opening road trip with a doubleheader against the University of Louisville Cardinals on Wednesday.

The Colonels (0-4, 0-0 ASUN) come away from the road stint empty-handed after dropping both halves of the doubleheader to the Cardinals (2-0, 0-0 ACC). 

MATCH ONE - EKU 1, LOU 6

The duo of Nuno Pinheiro and Christian Cantos Siemers picked up their second doubles win of the season on court two with a clean 6-3 victory, but the Cardinals took the matches on courts one and three to secure the doubles point.

Pinheiro claimed his first singles win of the season as well, also on court two, in a hard-fought battle that went the distance. Pinheiro and his opponent traded 6-4 wins in sets one and two then battled back-and-forth in set three before managing to pull out the win, 10-8.

MATCH TWO - EKU 0, LOU 4

Louisville claimed the doubles point once again with wins on courts one and two to take an early 1-0. Adrian Contreras and Ryan Kitchin were tied 4-4 on court three before the match was called.

The Cardinals secured the win with three victories in singles play on courts two, four, and six. On court three, Siemers was tied 5-5 in the second set while, on court one, Fernando Bulnes was tied 1-1 in set two after narrowly dropping set one 6-7 (5-7) before the remaining matches were called early.
