EKU Men's Basketball Plays At High-Scoring Vanderbilt On Wednesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University's men's basketball team will take on an undefeated Vanderbilt  squad that is averaging 105 points per game on Wednesday at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville.

THE COLONELS
-  EKU had a 4-point lead with less than five minutes left in the game, but couldn't hold off a comeback by Western Kentucky on Monday.  The Colonels are now 1-1 this season.
 
-  The offense is 23rd in the nation in scoring (100.5 ppg), 22nd in 3-pointers attempted (34/game) and 24th in 3-pointers made (12.5/game).
 
-  Newcomer Jalen Cooper started the season by scoring 21 points in EKU's win over Midway and then tied his career-high with 14 rebounds against WKU.  He is averaging 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 60% from the field, including 57% (5-for-9) from 3-point range.
 
-  In each of his first two games as a Colonel, newcomer Austin Ball has set a new career-high for points.  He started the season with a career-best 13 before scoring a new career-high 20 against Western Kentucky.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Vanderbilt started the season with wins over Lipscomb and Central Florida, scoring 105 points in each game.  The Commodores beat Lipscomb 105-61 and then went on the road and downed UCF 105-93.  
 
- Vandy has shot 56% from the field (16th NCAA) and 46% from 3-point range (14th NCAA).  The Commodores are averaging 21 assists per game.  VU has turned the ball over just 6.0 times per game (5th NCAA), nine fewer than its opponents.
 
-  Tyler Nickel leads the team with an average of 18.5 points per game.  The 6-foot-7 senior had 17 points, four rebounds and two assists in the victory at Central Florida.  He played one season at North Carolina and one at Virginia Tech before playing the last two at Vanderbilt.
 
-  Duke Miles is third on the team in scoring at 15 points per game and leads the team with 6.0 assists per contest.  The 6-foot-2 graduate student finished with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field against UCF.  He spent three seasons at Troy, one at High Point and one at Oklahoma before coming to Vandy this season.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 3-0.  The two programs played three games in Nashville in 1982, 1983 and 1984.
 
-  The Commodores won the most recent meeting, 73-59, on Dec. 17, 1984.
