Volleyball Falls To Central Arkansas

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Central Arkansas on Thursday in the team's return to Baptist Health Arena.
 
Central Arkansas won by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-23.
 
Addison Burke had a team-best 11 kills.  The Colonels (19-8, 11-4 ASUN) made 20 attack errors and hit just .105 for the match.  The Sugar Bears (14-11, 11-4 ASUN) made only 13 errors and hit .237.
 
After EKU closed to within one, 8-7, on a kill from Emilee Hill early in the first, the Sugar Bears scored four straight.  An attack error put UCA in front 12-7.  A kill from Caylan Koons stretched the margin to seven, 17-10.  The Colonels got as close as three, 18-15, before Central Arkansas ended the opening set on a 7-1 run to take a 1-0 lead.
 
In the second set, UCA turned an 11-9 deficit into a 14-12 lead with a 5-1 run.  Alexis McDaniel accounted for two of the five with a pair of aces.  Consecutive kills from Laci Bohannan, and an EKU attack error, put the Sugar Bears ahead 21-16.  Bohannan's kill ended the second and gave her team a 2-0 lead.
 
A kill from Burke gave the Colonels a 10-5 lead in the third set.  Another kill from the freshman and a UCA attack error put the home team in front 13-6.  The Sugar Bears got within one at 18-17 and 20-19 before finally tying it up at 20-20 on a kill from Gabby Tuiaana.  Central Arkansas won the next point on a kill from Koons to take the lead.  Ella Chaney's kill gave the visitors match-point and Greyson Button ended it with a block.
 
Bohannan led all players with 13 kills.  UCA served up 11 aces and out-blocked the Colonels 8-5.
 
EKU will close out the regular season by hosting North Alabama on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.  Friday will be Senior Night.
