BEREA, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University's men's basketball team will begin its 2025-26 season on Thursday against Midway University at the Seabury Center in Berea, Kentucky.

The Colonels will play their first game of the season in Baptist Health Arena against in-state rival Western Kentucky on Monday.

THE COLONELS
- EKU finished 18-14 overall last season and went 12-6 in conference games. Two starters return from that team and 10 new players have joined the program.

-Â After beating Alice Lloyd, 98-69, to begin the 2024-25 season, the Colonels have now won five straight season-openers.

- EKU defeated Morehead State, 107-93, in an exhibition game on Oct. 27. The Colonels hit 16 three-pointers (44%) and shot 56% from the field. The team dished out 26 assists on 34 made field goals.

Montavious Myrick was selected by head coaches as the Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and chosen to the Preseason All-ASUN Team. Last season he led the league in offensive rebounds, was third in rebounding, fifth in blocks, eighth in defensive rebounds and 13th in steals.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Midway is officially 2-1 on the season. That record does not include a 5-point loss in an exhibition game for the Eagles against Morehead State on Monday. Midway scored 85 or more points in its two wins over Miami-Middletown (95-79) and Alice Lloyd (85-81). Â

- Midway had a 12-point lead at halftime against Morehead State. MU shot 56% from the field for the game and made 11-of-23 (48%) from 3-point range. MSU shot 73% in the second half and outscored Midway 9-0 at the free throw line in the second half.

- Amari Wales scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field against Morehead State. He hit on 3-of-4 from behind the arc, pulled down five rebounds and handed out five assists. For the season, Wales leads Midway in scoring (17.3 ppg), rebounding (5.7 rpg) and assists (6.7 apg) while shooting 46% from the field.

- In its three regular season games, Midway has averaged 82 points and allowed 78 per game. The Eagles are shooting 42% from the field and allowing their opponents to make 50%. MU has been out-rebounded by five per game.

INSIDE THE SERIES
- EKU is 2-0 all-time against Midway. The Colonels have averaged 114 points per game in those contests. The most recent meeting was a 121-67 victory on Dec. 15, 2021.

- EKU broke the school record for 3-pointers in a game, and threatened the ASUN and NCAA Division I marks, in that last meeting. Jomaru Brown's corner trey with 9:10 left to play gave EKU 21 three-pointers in the game, breaking the record of 20 set against Warren Wilson on Nov. 13, 2014 and again against Tennessee-Martin on Jan. 21, 2021. EKU finished with 25, falling one 3-pointer short of tying the conference record of 26 in a game.
