Blazing Hot Colonels Set To Host Two Home Games This Week

RICHMOND, Ky. – Riding a 5-game winning streak and sitting just one game out of first place, Eastern Kentucky University will host a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference games this week – facing University of West Georgia on Thursday and Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday.
 
Thursday's game will begin at 7 p.m. ET.  Saturday's contest is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.  Both games will air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcasts of the games are available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, or worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
Valentine's Day at the Coliseum, in partnership with EKU Residence Life, is scheduled for Thursday.  There will be fun in-game content and Residence Life will be hosting a res life hall challenge.  FREE Insomnia Cookies will be given out to students, there will be a photo booth and more.  The residence hall with the best attendance will win a PS5.

THE COLONELS
-  EKU (14-11, 8-4 ASUN) swept a pair of road games in Florida last week, winning by an average of 21.5 points.  The Colonels' 5-game winning streak, which includes three wins against teams currently tied for first place in the ASUN, is their longest since starting league play with seven straight wins last season.
 
-  In EKU's win at Florida Gulf Coast, Turner Buttry hit six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points.  In the Colonels' victory at Stetson, Jackson Holt connected on seven 3-pointers and finished with 22 points.  In the last two games, the duo is a combined 14-for-27 (52%) from behind the arc.
 
-  During their 5-game winning streak, the Colonels are averaging 15.0 assists per game and have dished out an assist on 51% of their made field goals.
 
-  Over the last five games, EKU is averaging 84.8 points while shooting 47% from the field and 43% from 3-point range.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
-  West Georgia is 4-21 overall in its first season as a NCAA Division I program and 2-10 in its first year as a member of the ASUN Conference.  The Wolves have lost four straight since beating North Florida, 92-72, at home.  
 
- UWG averages 69 points per game and has allowed 78 per contest.  The Wolves force 12 turnovers per game.  Shelton Williams-Dryden leads the team in scoring (16.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg).  The 6-foot-6 junior forward who previously played at Milwaukee Area Tech, has shot 56 percent from the field this season.
 
-  Queens sits at 15-10 and 8-4 in conference play heading into its game at Bellarmine on Thursday.  The Royals had their 3-game winning streak snapped at home against Lipscomb with a 94-81 loss on Saturday.
 
-  The Royals are third in the ASUN with 9.4 three-pointers made per game.  Leo Colimerio, a 6-foot-7 forward who previously played at Fresno State, leads the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game and is second on the team with 5.1 rebounds per contest.  Chris Ashby has hit 80 three-pointers this season, the second-most in the conference.  The 6-foot-2 senior guard averages 11.6 points per game.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  This will be the first-ever meeting between EKU and West Georgia.
 
-  EKU leads the all-time series against Queens, 2-1.  The Colonels are 1-0 against the Royals in Richmond.  Queens won the most recent matchup, 94-76, on Feb. 1, 2024 in Charlotte.  In the last meeting, the Colonels made just 5-of-26 (19%) from 3-point range while the Royals knocked down 9-of-23 (39%).  EKU hit on just 36% from the field for the game while Queens made 44% of its shots.  Leland Walker finished with 22 points.  Deyton Albury led Queens with 22 points and eight rebounds.
