MOBILE, Ala. – The tying run reached base in the ninth inning, but Eastern Kentucky University lost 2-1 at South Alabama on Monday.

EKU grabbed the early lead with a run in the top of the second inning. With one out,
Colby Ott walked and then advanced to third on a pickoff attempt.Â
Julius Scearce followed with an infield single to bring home Ott.

Scearce finished the day 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Jaguars tied it in the bottom of the third. After the first two batters were retired, the next two were hit by a pitch. Josh Stevenson's single to left center brought home Kyle Morrison. South Alabama took the lead in the fourth on an RBI single from John Smith.

Ehinger Adrianza led off the ninth inning with a single through the right side, but that runner was stranded at first after a fielder's choice, a strikeout and another fielder's choice.

Carsen van Haaren and
Wyatt Foley combined to hold South Alabama to two runs on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Foley provided 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out two.
