SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Eastern Kentucky University softball team closed out their weekend at the Sparkle City Invite as they fell to the Raiders of Campbell on Sunday morning, 1-2.

The Colonels (8-5, 0-0 ASUN) finish the weekend at 2-3 with the two wins coming against SC State.

Maddi Rutan (2-3) made her fourth pitching appearance of the weekend with the start, pitching 4.0 innings and striking out eight batters to finish her weekend with a total of 26 strikeouts in 69 batters faced. Brooke Davis and Lauren Narvaez also made appearances in the circle with 1.2 and 0.1 IP, respectively.

EKU was the first on the board in the first inning as Jaelin Haynes took advantage of a diversion from a Raider pickoff to steal home for the second time in the weekend.

The Raiders responded with two solo home runs, one in the first inning and the other in the third, to take a 2-1 lead.

The Colonels created opportunities in the final four innings but could not convert, leaving eight runners on base in the game as the Raiders took the win.

The Colonels return to Richmond for their home opener at Gertrude Hood Field as they host UIC, Akron, and Dayton in round-robin play from Feb. 28 through March 2. The team opens up the weekend with a single game against UIC on Friday, Feb. 28 at 1:30 PM.
