LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky softball team dropped their first game in their past ten on Wednesday evening as they fell to the Louisville Cardinals, 2-10.
The Colonels (17-6, 0-0 ASUN) are now 9-1 in their last ten games as they head into the start of conference play.
Maddi Rutan (7-4) was the starting pitcher for the Colonels with
Tayteum Vigansky and
Victoria Byrum making appearances in the circle as well.
The Cardinals were first on the board with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning, then adding on three more in the fourth.
Makayla Mathis got the Colonels on the board with the team's first triple of the season, lining a drive through the left side that just made it past the outstretched glove of the Cardinal outfielder to score
Taci Haase.
Another run was tacked on for EKU as
Jaelin Haynes followed up with an RBI single, her seventh run batted in of the season. Haynes has recorded a hit in eight of her last ten games.
Louisville scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by run rule.
UP NEXT
The Colonels open ASUN play as they welcome the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas to Gertrude Hood Field. The series kicks off with a doubleheader on Friday with games at 4 PM and 6:30 PM. Saturday's game is scheduled for 1 PM but is subject to change due to anticipated bad weather.
