Men’s Tennis Falls in Heartbreaker to North Florida

RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU men's tennis was defeated narrowly by North Florida, 4-3, in its Atlantic Sun Conference opener on Sunday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.

EKU (7-12, 0-1 ASUN) won the doubles point with victories on court Nos. 1 and 3.  Nuno Pinheiro and Fernando Bulnes had a wide win on court one with a 6-2 decision over Andreas Scott and Gianluca Filoramo.  The Colonels also had a 6-1 win on court three as Romeo Elfving Navarro and Pepe Miralles took down Lorenzo Messina and Joao Portugal.

In singles, EKU needed just three points in order meet the four-point threshold to win the match.  The Colonels fell short only picking up two individual wins from Bulnes and Adrian Contreras on court Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

Three of the six matches on Sunday went to three sets, highlighted by multiple tiebreak efforts from the participants on court Nos. 1 and 2.
