History! Women’s Soccer Returns Bluegrass Cup Defeating Morehead 5-1

Coach Cosinuke Becomes Winningest Head Coach in Program History

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team cruised past rival Morehead State, 5-1, on Thursday night in the 18th edition of the Bluegrass Cup at MSU Soccer Field.

With the win, EKU head women's soccer coach Matt Cosinuke becomes the winningest coach in program history with 47 total victories across his seven seasons with the school.

EKU (4-1) scored its second-most goals in a single match in program history, matching a 5-0 win over Jacksonville State in October 2010.

Senior defender Sydney Taylor led the way, becoming the 21st Colonel to record a brace. She scored her first career goal on a penalty kick in the 49th minute and added another in the 58th on a header.

Fellow senior defender Emma Spivey, sophomore forward Ella Grode and freshman midfielder Emma Wolf also found the back of the net. Wolf's strike in the 74th minute was the first of her collegiate career.

The Colonels also tallied five assists, highlighted by junior midfielder Chiara Premoli, who notched her second multi-assist performance of the season. With the effort, Premoli tied the program career record with 14 assists. She entered the match ranked second nationally in total assists and fourth in assists per game.

EKU struck first in the 36th minute when Spivey headed home a free kick from Premoli. The goal was the second of Spivey's collegiate career.

Morehead State (1-3) briefly equalized in the 47th minute on a goal from Karissa Vela, but the Colonels answered with four unanswered goals to secure the win.

Taylor converted her penalty in the 49th and completed her brace nine minutes later. Grode scored in the 61st minute off a combination of quick passes, before Wolf capped the scoring in the 74th with a long-range effort that banked in off the woodwork.

EKU's five goals were the most scored in the Cosinuke era. The Colonels finished with 15 points on the night, two shy of the program record, while recording 15 total shots and seven on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ruby Morgan earned her second career victory, playing the full 90 minutes and making six saves.

EKU will return to action next Thursday at Belmont. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET in Nashville, with live coverage on ESPN+.
