MUNCIE, Ind. – In its final non-conference match of the regular season, the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team beat Ball State University, 3-2, on Saturday in Muncie, Indiana.

The Colonels (8-4) won by scores of 18-25, 27-25, 25-10, 19-25 and 15-12.

One day after setting a new career-high with 19 kills, freshman
Addison Burke registered 20 against the Cardinals (4-8). She made just four errors in 53 attempts for a .302 attack percentage. Burke also served up three aces, had eight digs and two blocks.

AG Hynes finished with 18 kills and only two errors in 32 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.Â
Emilee Hill had her 10th career triple-double, giving her squad 13 kills, 37 assists and 18 digs to go along with four blocks. Freshman
Cassidy Trahan had a team-high 21 digs.

Hynes gave EKU a 12-11 lead with a kill in the first set, but Ball State went on a quick 5-2 run to create a 3-point cushion. Elizabeth Tabeling's ace pushed her squad ahead 16-13. The Cardinals led the rest of the way.

The second set remained close throughout. EKU tied it, 22-22, late on a kill from
Carson Ledford, and then took the lead on the next sequence after a BSU error. A kill from Hynes gave the Colonels set-point at 24-23 and forced a timeout from the home team. Another kill from Hynes gave the visitors a second set-point at 25-24. Burke's kill was good for a third set-point, 26-25. The freshman then served up an ace to even the match.

The Cardinals scored the first point in the third set, but EKU scored the next seven. A kill from Burke made it 7-1 early. A kill from Ledford and a BSU error made it 10-2. Back-to-back kills from Hill and Burke capped a run of seven unanswered and made it a rout, 17-4. Burke finished it off and staked her team to a 2-1 lead with two straight kills to end the set.

The Colonels took a 4-3 advantage in the fourth on a kill from
Caitlyn Flees before a 7-0 run from Ball State gave the momentum to the home team. A kill from Gwen Crull and an EKU error made it 10-4. The Colonels never got closer than two the rest of the set.

EKU scored four of the first five to start the final set. A block from Hill and Flees made it a 6-2 lead. Out of a BSU timeout, Flees recorded a kill and then combined with Burke for a block to move it to an 8-2 advantage. Flees completed the quick start with another kill for a 9-2 lead. The Cardinals cut a 6-point deficit in half by rolling off three straight. Noelle VanOort's kill cut it to 11-8. Two straight aces from VanOort closed it to a 1-point margin, 13-12. Burke brought EKU to match-point with a soft kill. A ball handling error by Ball State ended the match.

The Colonels hit .395 for the match, finishing with just 13 attack error compared to 22 for BSU. EKU had a 9-8 edge in blocks.

Carson Tyler finished with a team-best 19 kills for the Cardinals.

EKU will start Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday at Bellarmine. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
