Second Half Free Throw Shooting Dooms Colonels In Overtime Loss

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
Eastern Kentucky University made just 9-of-14 at the free throw line in the second half and lost in overtime, 81-76, at Jacksonville University on Saturday.
 
Montavious Myrick had 17 points and six rebounds for the Colonels.  MJ Williams finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
 
EKU took a 67-61 lead on a free throw from Myrick with 2:33 left in regulation, however the Colonels scored only one more point and JU finished the first 40 minutes on a 7-1 run.  Chris Lockett's jumper with 31 seconds on the clock tied the game at 68-68 and forced overtime.
 
The visitors scored first in overtime, taking a 70-68 lead on two free throws from Juan Cranford Jr.  Cranford's 3-pointer with 2:49 left in the extra period put EKU ahead 73-72.  The Dolphins out-scored the Colonels 9-3 the rest of the way.  Allen Udemadu's two free throws and layup put Jacksonville in front for good, 76-73.
 
Lockett led all players with 25 points, going 10-of-13 from the field.
 
EKU (7-14, 3-5 ASUN) shot 48% from the field for the game, but was just 1-for-6 in overtime.  Jacksonville (8-13, 3-5 ASUN) hit on 52% of its shots.
 
The Colonels will return to Richmond to host Austin Peay on Wednesday.  Tipoff at Baptist Health Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
