EKU Adds Gomez-Joseph To Men's Basketball Staff

RICHMOND, Ky. – Luchiano Gomez-Joseph has joined the EKU men's basketball staff as an assistant coach.

Gomez-Joseph spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant at Wittenberg University.  He led the defensive game planning and in-game adjustments for a squad that ranked No. 1 in the conference in defense, seventh in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage and 13th in the country in scoring defense.  He also developed scouting reports, served as the video coordinator, recruited and evaluated prospective student-athletes, and designed and implemented year-round skill development programs.

"I am so excited to welcome Luchiano to our basketball family," said EKU Head Coach A.W. Hamilton.  "His energy and passion for the game, combined with his ability to build relationships while helping young players grow on and off the floor, makes him a perfect fit for us."

During the 2024-25 season, Gomez-Joseph served as the director of player development at Campbell University.  He led on-court workouts for each position group and served as the defensive assistant coach.  He helped Campbell lead the Coastal Athletic Association in defense.  He was instrumental in the development of First Team All-CAA honoree Colby Duggan who increased his scoring average from 3.0 to 16.0 points per game.

From May 2022 to May 2024 Gomez-Joseph was an NBA skills trainer in Miami, Florida.  He led skill development sessions for NBA players such as Gary Trent Jr., Alex Len, Brandon Knight, Jaden Springer and Jeff Green.  He assisted in on-court workouts for 30-plus NBA and Euro League players – focusing on passing, rebounding and defending.

Gomez-Jospeh served in two roles at South Florida, first as head manager from August 2018 to May 2021 and then as a graduate assistant from May 2021 to May 2023.

He earned a bachelor's of science in health sciences at USF in 2021 and completed a master's of science in global sustainability in 2023.

The Colonels will host Morehead State for an exhibition game on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.  The season will officially begin on Nov. 2 when Kentucky Christian visits Baptist Health Arena.  Season tickets can be purchased at EKUSports.com/MBBtix.
