RICHMOND, Ky. – Addison Burke had 12 kills to lead Eastern Kentucky to a 3-0 victory over visiting Austin Peay on Tuesday at Baptist Health Arena.
The Colonels (15-2, 5-0 UAC) have won 10 straight after beating the Governors by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20.
Burke made only two errors in 24 attempts and posted a .417 attack percentage. She also had seven digs.
Austin Peay (10-8, 2-3 UAC) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, but EKU came back.
Alexis Bull tied it at 9-9 with a kill. The set remained close throughout.
Emma Closurdo knotted the score at 21-21 with a kill. Burke broke a 22-22 tie with a kill and then gave the home team set-point with another. After an APSU point, Burke finished it off, 25-23, with a kill.
An ace from Bull in the second set put the Colonels ahead by four, 16-12. Burke made it a 5-point advantage, 18-13, with a kill.
Audrey Hudson ended the second, 25-16, with a kill and staked her team to a 2-0 lead.
Eastern Kentucky broke a 2-2 tie in the third set on an attack error from the Governors. The Colonels led the rest of the way. Burke made it 7-3 with a kill. An ace from Hudson had Eastern ahead 15-12. A kill from
Emilee Hill stretched it to 22-17. Burke finished off the set, 25-20, and the match with a kill.
Hill contributed nine kills, 19 assists, 12 digs and five blocks. She made one error for a .471 attack percentage. Bull had six kills, five blocks and two aces.
EKU out-blocked Austin Peay 9-5 and hit .349 for the match. The Colonels made only 10 attack errors in 106 attempts.
Taly Cloyd led all players with 13 kills for the Governors.
Eastern will host North Alabama on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the annual Dig Pink match. The Colonels will wear pink in support of the fight against breast cancer. There will be a pink EKU cap giveaway as well.
