BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky softball team fell to Western Kentucky, 8-0, in a run-rule loss Tuesday night.

The Colonels (11-12) kept the game close early, but Western Kentucky pulled away with a three-run fourth inning.

Offensively, EKU struggled to generate momentum at the plate, finishing with just two hits in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Western Kentucky took control in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs. The inning began with consecutive singles before an RBI single to first brought home the first Hilltoppers run.
Â
With runners on first and second, Western Kentucky added another run on the next at-bat with a single to center, extending the lead to 2-0. EKU kept the deficit there despite the Hilltoppers loading the bases, recording the third out to escape the inning.

In the top of the third, the Colonels loaded the bases with two walks and a fielder's choice, but Western Kentucky ended the threat with a deep flyout to end the inning.

Western Kentucky took a 3-0 lead in the third after a runner on second scored on an EKU throwing error.

The Hilltoppers broke the game open in the fourth with a three-run inning. After an error and a single put runners on, Western Kentucky started the scoring with an RBI single up the middle.

With a runner on third and no outs, a flyout to right brought home another run. Western Kentucky then added another RBI single to make it 6-0.

The Hilltoppers sealed the game in the fifth with a home run to deep right-center and added another run on a bunt to secure the 8-0 run-rule win.
