LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Colonels of Eastern Kentucky University lost a Wednesday night road matchup at No. 21 Kentucky, 8-4.

The Colonels (3-10) struck first in the contest, jumping out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of a
David Alvarez RBI single in the first, and a Kahleel Pratt RBI single in the third.

Following the Pratt single, the Colonels were able to work two runners into scoring position with one out, but were unable to produce any more runs with two consecutive outs.

The Wildcats (11-2) evened the score in the bottom of the third with a two-RBI inside-the-park home run to left field.

UK tacked on two more runs in the fifth, both via sacrifice, before adding an additional run in the sixth inning via a wild pitch with the bases loaded.

The Wildcats then pushed their lead to six in the eighth with three more runs to go up, 8-2.

Pedro Moreno brought two runs in for EKU in the ninth with a two-RBI triple to center, but EKU was not able to make up the rest of the difference.

The Colonels return to action on Friday at 5 p.m. for the first of a three-game series at home against Illinois State.
