RICHMOND, Ky. – There was no shortage of offense on Saturday between Eastern Kentucky University and Bellarmine on the diamond, with the Colonels falling, 14-10.
Tied at nine after the seventh, the Knights produced five runs across the eighth and ninth, with a Colonel comeback coming up short with just one run in the ninth.
The scoring started with BU pushing two across in the first before EKU answered with four runs of its own via a two-run
Dylan Littlefield home run, a balk, and a sacrifice bunt laid down by Reid Jackson.
The Knights evened the score at four in the top of the third with a two-run home run, but the Colonels took the lead back in their half of the inning.
Khaleel Pratt helped regain the lead with his ninth home run of the season to begin the half inning, and
Tyler Phillips singled through the left side of the infield to bring two more Colonels across to go up, 7-4.
In the top of the fourth, BU loaded the bases before tying the score once again with a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI single to center field.
In the next half inning, Pratt produced another RBI for the Colonels on a sacrifice to center field, scoring Littlefield as EKU went up by one run, 8-7.
The Colonels added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth as Littlefield scored Reid Jackson on a sacrifice fly to center field, extending the EKU advantage to two runs at 9-7.
The Knights evened the score in the top of the seventh, pushing two runs across. They tacked on three more runs in the eighth with timely hits after loading the bases to take the lead, 13-9.
BU added one insurance run in the ninth as EKU was only able to score one more via a wild pitch with the bases loaded before consecutive strikeouts ended the second game of the conference series.
Littlefield ended the game going one-for-four at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Pratt went one-for-two at the dish, producing two RBIs, while
Jackson Cauthron scored three runs, leading all Colonels.
The Colonels and Knights finish their series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
