EKU Stages Dramatic Comeback to Finish in Tie

RICHMOND, Ky. - In possibly one of the strangest series of the year, Eastern Kentucky University closed out its weekend series in a tie after dropping the first game of the day.

After trailing 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, EKU's seniors Jaelin Haynes and Lilly Davis sparked a magical comeback, drilling two home runs to tie the game. With two outs in the inning, the contest was called due to drop-dead time, marking the first tie in program history.

The Colonels (24-20-1, 11-5-1 ASUN) showed resilience throughout the weekend, scoring seven runs in the final innings across the weekend series. Haynes delivered a monster Senior Day performance, totaling two runs, six RBIs, a triple, and a home run. Davis added three RBIs and a home run while batting 5-for-8 on the day.

EKU now sits third in the Gold Division, with Central Arkansas holding the tiebreaker.

GAME ONE - Central Arkansas 8, EKU 6

Jada McLeod gave the Colonels an early lead in the second inning, launching her second home run of the season deep to center field.

Central Arkansas answered with an RBI single in the top of the fourth to tie the game.

EKU responded with a three-run bottom of the fourth. Haynes lined a triple down the right-field line to clear the bases, and Davis later followed with a single that scored Haynes and Kennedy Drafton to push the Colonels in front, 6-2.

Facing a deficit heading into the fifth inning, Central Arkansas rallied for seven runs over the final three innings to secure the win. The comeback was highlighted by a three-run home run in the top of the seventh.

GAME TWO - EKU 5, Central Arkansas 5

The Bears struck first with a home run in the opening inning, then added a two-run single in the fourth to build a 3-0 advantage.

The Colonels cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning when Jordan Smith singled to center field to score McLeod.

Central Arkansas regained momentum in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run, putting EKU in a 5-1 hole.

With their backs against the wall, EKU's seniors delivered one final rally. After a Vanessa Keller single and a Reese Knox walk, Jaelin Haynes crushed a three-run home run to center field for the first homer of her career.

After the Bears recorded an out, Lilly Davis stepped to the plate. With the game on the line, Davis sent a towering drive to deep center field for a game-tying home run.

The game was called due to a drop-dead time, resulting in the game finalizing in a tie.
