RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team closed out its 2026 spring practice slate on Saturday with its annual Spring Game, presented by CG Bank, as the defense turned in a dominant performance at Roy Kidd Stadium.
The "Maroon Doom" defense controlled the day, defeating the offense, 39-10. EKU's defense recorded a touchdown, two interceptions, and two red zone stops, while holding the offense scoreless during the second half running clock periods and late-game situations.
Redshirt senior defensive back
Jeffrey Kinley and redshirt freshman defensive lineman
Preston Swope led all players with seven tackles apiece. Graduate transfer
Jackson Marshall added five tackles and a tackle for loss.
Sophomore defensive back
Tavarion James and redshirt freshman linebacker
Davion Sturgis each recorded interceptions for the Colonels.
On the offensive side, redshirt senior kicker
Buzz Flabiano opened the scoring with a 48-yard field goal.
EKU's offense totaled 418 yards, splitting reps between quarterbacks
Tyler Travers and
Jordyn Potts.
Travers, a redshirt freshman, completed 12-of-21 passes for 126 yards and a 24-yard touchdown to wide receiver
Elijah Caldwell in the second quarter. Potts finished 7-of-17 for 63 yards.
Four running backs combined for 229 rushing yards. Redshirt freshman
Peyton Smith led the group with 81 yards on 29 carries, while redshirt freshman
Cortez Stone added 72 yards. Junior
Brady Hensley contributed 52 yards on the ground.
