BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky suffered a 3-0 loss to Pepperdine on Friday at Western Kentucky University's Alyssa Cavanaugh Classic.
Pepperdine (5-3) won by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.
Emilee Hill led all players with 15 kills. She also had a .312 attack percentage, 19 assists, eight digs and a block.
The Colonels (5-2) started the first set strong, winning five of the first six points. An ace from
Cassidy Trahan made it 5-1. The Waves whittled away at the deficit and tied it, 7-7, on a block by Tristen Raymond and Elia Piskorz. Neither team led by more than two until Pepperdine broke a late 22-22 tie by scoring the final three points of the set. A bad set handed PU a 25-22 win.
The Waves jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the second set before Eastern Kentucky made a comeback. An 8-3 run allowed the Colonels to tie the set. A kill from Hill and an attack error finished off the run and knotted it at 13-13. EKU made another comeback, erasing a 4-point deficit. Hill tied it at 18-18 with another kill and an ace from
Caitlyn Flees put her squad on top 19-18. However, Pepperdine scored the next five points and took the set 25-23.
The Colonels built a 12-9 lead in the third set, but an 11-3 run from the Waves put the match away. Back-to-back attack errors ended the PU run and made it 20-15. A block from Chloe Pravednikov ended the set, 25-21, and the match.
Pravednikov finished with a team-high 13 kills for Pepperdine. Piskorz had seven blocks and eight kills.
The Waves hit .337 as a team while the Colonels posted a strong .277 attack percentage. Pepperdine had an 11-4 edge in blocks and made five fewer service errors.
The Colonels will conclude the event on Saturday against host WKU at 4 p.m. ET. The match will air live on ESPN+.
