STATESBORO, Ga. – After a 3-1 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday at the GATA Challenge hosted by Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Eastern Kentucky moved to 4-0 on the season.
The Colonels won by scores of 25-11, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-17.
Emma Clossurdo led Eastern Kentucky with 16 kills. She made only one error in 24 attempts for a .625 attack percentage.
Emilee Hill finished with a triple-double for the third straight match – posting 13 kills, 28 assists and 10 digs.
EKU trailed 3-2 in the first set before taking control with a 13-2 run. Closurdo tied it, 3-3, with a kill.
Cooper Abney followed with an ace and the Colonels led the rest of the way. A kill from Hill and a bad set capped the run and sent Eastern Kentucky into the media time out in front by 10, 15-5. Closurdo made it 20-7 with a kill. Hill finished off the set, 25-11, with a kill.
The Panthers had an 11-10 edge in the second set before EKU scored seven of the next eight to build a 5-point cushion.
Addison Burke capped the run with a kill for a 17-12. Prairie View A&M closed the gap to two on two occasions late in the set, including 24-22 on a kill from D'Mya Hill. However, EKU's Hill finished off the set, 25-22, with a kill.
The third set remained close throughout. PVAMU broke a 19-19 tie with kills from Hill and Valencia Wilder. The Panthers led the rest of the set. Carrington Cook finished off the third, 25-23, with a kill.
Prairie View closed a 5-point deficit to three, 15-12, on kills from Iyonna Sherwood and Terasita Caldwell in the fourth. The Colonels answered with a 7-1 run to seize control of the set, and the match. A kill from Hill and a PVAMU attack error finished off the run and had Eastern Kentucky in front 22-13. A service error gave EKU match-point at 24-17. On the next serve, Hill finished the match with an ace.
The Colonels hit .310 for the match while holding Prairie View A&M to a .219 attack percentage. The Panthers had a 9-5 edge in blocks, but made 11 service errors – compared to five for Eastern Kentucky.
Burke contributed 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks for the winners.
Audrey Hudson had 10 kills and seven digs.
Cassidy Trahan contributed 22 digs.
D'Mya Hill led all players with 17 kills for PVAMU.
EKU will close out play at the GATA Challenge on Sunday against Georgia Southern at 1 p.m. ET. The match will air live on ESPN+.
