2009 Scouting Report – An excellent all-around football player … the only senior in the wide receiver group … expected to be a key contributor to the offense.

At EKU – 2008: Played in 11 games with seven starts, including starts in each of the final four games … missed the Tennessee State (Sept. 20) game with a shoulder injury … posted a season-best 62 yards receiving in the NCAA playoff game at Richmond on Nov. 29 … his 48-yard catch late in the second quarter at Richmond set up EKU’s lone touchdown … tallied three receptions at Tennessee Tech on Oct. 4 and versus Eastern Illinois on Oct. 25. 2007: Made an appearance in 11 games with five starts … missed the Austin Peay (Nov. 10) game with a shoulder injury … ranked third on the team with 284 receiving yards … recorded at least one reception in 10 contests … hauled in a 64-yard touchdown pass against Samford on Sept. 29 … tallied four catches for 70 yards versus Southeast Missouri on Oct. 13 … utilized as the primary punt returner … posted a long punt return of 19 yards against Samford. 2006: Saw action in 10 of 11 games … played mainly on special teams … took over the punt return role midway through the season … averaged 12.4 yards per punt return … also saw time as a kick-off returner.

High School – Finished the 2005 season with more than 800 yards of total offense and intercepted five passes on defense … Louisville Courier-Journal all-state wide receiver … first team all-region wide receiver and defensive back … three-year starter … also a member of the basketball and track teams … 2005 Governor’s Scholar and academic all-state.

Personal – Son of Garnett and Mollie Phelps … born on Oct. 13, 1987 … his dad was the first African-American quarterback in the Big 12 at Missouri … his brother-in-law, Nazr Mohammed, plays for the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats.
