2014 Scouting Report – EKU’s top quarterback heading into his senior year … a serious threat throwing or running the ball … a very elusive runner outside of the pocket.
At EKU –
2013: Played in every game with 11 starts at quarterback … finished third in the OVC in both passing (1,535 yards) and total offense (162.4 yards per game) … ranked second on the team in rushing attempts (116) and yards (414) … led EKU with seven rushing scores … ran for two scores, threw two touchdown passes and also caught a 33-yard pass in the opener against Robert Morris … tossed a 70-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Watts in the first quarter against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 14 … recorded two rushing touchdowns in the win over Tennessee Tech on Oct. 19 … notched three first-half scoring passes in the win over Tennessee State on Nov. 2.
2012: Was utilized in every game at quarterback while earning three starts … started the opener at Purdue on Sept. 1 due to an injury to T.J. Pryor … led EKU to an opening drive touchdown at Coastal Carolina on Sept. 15 … finished the drive with a 32-yard scoring pass to Matt Denham … went 7-of-8 passing for 101 yards against the Chanticleers … ignited the offense at UT Martin on Sept. 29 with a third quarter, 25-yard touchdown strike to Tyrone Goard … engineered three touchdown drives in the win at Southeast Missouri on Nov. 3 … capped two of those drives with scoring runs of three yards … did not throw an interception the final eight games.
2011: Served as the team’s No. 2 quarterback … started the season opener at Kansas State (Sept. 3) due to a hand injury to T.J. Pryor … scored the team’s only touchdown at KSU on a one-yard run in the third quarter … threw for 119 yards against Kansas State including a 43-yard pass to Tyrone Goard … saw action in five other games.
High School – 2009 first team All-GACA quarterback … 2009 Region 7-AAAA first team quarterback … 2010 first team All-Paulding County quarterback … 2010 Paulding County Player of the Year … Hiram’s career leader in passing yards, completions, total yards, passing touchdowns and total touchdowns … also played three years of varsity basketball.
Personal – Son of Karen Smith … born on Sept. 30, 1992 … serving as one of the football team’s representatives on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2014-15.
