AS A FRESHMAN IN 2021
Appeared in 21 games and made seven starts … went 1-5 with a 4.27 ERA over 52 and two-thirds innings … struck out 31 and walked only 14 … opponents hit .264 against him … first two starts of his collegiate career came at No. 4 Tennessee and at No. 2 Vanderbilt … pitched a scoreless and hitless inning in Eastern’s win over No. 7 Louisville (March 16) … held No. 4 Tennessee (April 6) to two earned runs in three innings … allowed two earned runs at No. 2 Vanderbilt (April 13) in two and two-thirds innings … shutout regular season conference champion Southeast Missouri (May 7) for five innings and allowed just four hits … held North Dakota State (May 22) to one run on three hits in five innings ... earned a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2020
Made two appearances … had a 3.00 ERA in three innings of work … struck out one, walked two and allowed one earned run … tossed one and one-third innings of scoreless relief in the season-finale at Northern Kentucky (March 11) ... earned a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL
Earned first team all-state honors as a senior at Bullitt East High School in 2019 … went 10-2 with a 1.31 ERA and one save, while hitting .402 with a home run and 28 RBIs … named to the all-district team, the all-region team, region player of the year and the all-district tournament team while helping the Chargers to a 33-8 record and a district championship as a senior … chosen third team all-state as a junior in 2018 after going 7-2 with a 1.27 ERA and a .283 batting average … also picked to the all-district, all-district tournament and all-region teams as a junior.

Full name is Joseph Garret Simpson … son of Craig and Terri Simpson … has one sister – Haley … his dad Craig played collegiate baseball at Ohio Wesleyan University … plans to study accounting.
