EKU Athletics is pleased to introduce #ChipInEKU. #ChipInEKU is a giving initiative that combines Eastern Kentucky University's mascot, the Colonel, and the US Military History of becoming a Colonel.
History of the Colonel
Prior to NDAA 2019, to become a Colonel in the U.S. military you were required at least
22 years of cumulative service and a minimum of
3 years as a Lieutenant Colonel before being promoted. EKU President Robert Martin established in 1963 the Colonel as the mascot. The Commonwealth of Kentucky has a long-standing practice of bestowing its highest recognition – Honorary Kentucky Colonel – to those deemed worthy by the Governor. Eastern Kentucky University embraces the Honorary Kentucky Colonel philosophy of bestowing its highest recognition - EKU Colonel - to their worthy students pursuing educational and personal goals. The inaugural year of the #ChipInEKU was set in April of 2022.
How to Get Involved in #ChipInEKU
For EKU Giving Day 2023, we're asking for you to donate $23 to the Colonel Club and Two EKU Sport programs (Associated Sports). When you make these gifts, in honor of EKU Giving Day, you will receive the second annual EKU 2023 Giving Day Poker Chip.
