Tyler Anderson joined the EKU program as the pitching coach in July of 2022.
Anderson has served as a pitching coach in two Major League Baseball organizations since 2018 and as the national pitching coordinator for Australian baseball since 2021.
From 2020 until this summer, Anderson was the training complex pitching coordinator/Florida Complex League pitching coach for the Philadelphia Phillies and the pitching coach for the Clearwater Threshers, the team’s Class A minor league affiliate. From 2018 to 2020, Anderson worked in the Los Angeles Angels organization, serving as the pitching coach at different times for the Orem Owls in the Pioneer League, the AZL Angels in the Arizona League and the Burlington Bees in the Midwest League.
As Australia’s national pitching coordinator, Anderson has played a key role in modernizing that nation’s approach to pitching and bringing the data-driven pitching movement that has transformed baseball to Australia.
“Tyler joined us from the Phillies organization where he spent two years helping develop some of the top pitching prospects in their system,” Prothro said. “He came highly recommended as an outstanding communicator who will help our pitching staff continue to progress at a high level. While working in the Angels organization for two years, he earned high marks for his ability help players get better.”
Anderson worked as the pitching coach for the Perth Heat in the Australian Baseball League in 2019 and 2020. He helped the team lead the ABL in almost every pitching category and he tutored ABL Pitcher of the Year Dylan Unsworth. In 2021, he served as the pitching coach for the Australian U18 National Team.
Anderson’s coaching career began as the volunteer assistant at Dartmouth from 2014 to 2016. He helped the program establish a new record for strikeouts in 2016 while allowing the fewest runs and walks in the Ivy League. He served as an assistant coach at Saint Louis University during the 2017 season, helping the Billikens to a 35-win season and breaking the school record for strikeouts. During the 2018 season, Anderson was the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach at Lindenwood University.
During his collegiate and professional coaching career, Anderson has coached seven MLB Draft picks and six pitchers who have gone on to play in the majors.
In 2011, Anderson earned a bachelor’s of science in sports management from William Woods University, where he played for two seasons.
