In his first year, Lawson led the efforts that resulted in the 14th ranked recruiting class in FCS football. Eastern’s 2017 recruiting class included 20 players that received all-state honors in their respective home stats. Five of those players were rated among the top-250 recruits in the nation.
“Brandon is extremely valuable to our football staff,” EKU Head Coach Mark Elder said. “He has an excellent eye for talent, is extremely organized and does a great job building relationships at EKU.”
Lawson spent two seasons (2014, 2015) as the director of player personnel at Middle Tennessee State University. He was responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive recruiting and evaluation strategy for the Blue Raiders. He also was charged with organizing recruiting targets and planning and executing all prospect visits to campus.
Before working with MTSU, Lawson served as the football personnel administrator at the University of Tennessee from 2010 to 2014. His responsibilities with the Vols included creating and managing prospect film and databases, managing assistant coaches’ recruiting operations, and planning and executing recruiting visit events on campus for prospects and their families. Lawson was responsible for bringing the prospect through the entire recruitment process from initial contact with high school coaches to signing day.
Lawson earned a degree in logistics from UT in May 2013.
Prior to joining the staff at Tennessee, Lawson served in the United States Marine Corps for six years (2004-10).
From 2007 to 2009 he was the Marine One Crew Chief during the President George W. Bush administration. Marine One is the call sign of any United States Marine Corps aircraft carrying the President of the United States. Lawson was tasked with ensuring the mechanical integrity of the VH-60N Marine One helicopter and all in-flight operations. He also supervised the training of potential VH-60N Marine One crew chiefs.
