Kevin Koger was chosen as EKU's wide receivers coach on Jan. 7, 2016.  In the summer of 2018, Koger added special teams coordinator to his duties.

21463Koger’s work with the receivers and special teams helped Eastern Kentucky post a 7-4 record in 2018.  Under Koger’s guidance, redshirt freshman Jackson Beerman led the team in receiving yards during his first season of game action.  The special teams unit in 2018 was one of 10 in the nation that did not allow a blocked kick, was 14th in the country with two punts blocked, led the Ohio Valley Conference with 23.2 yards per kickoff return and was second in the conference in net punting, despite utilizing a freshman punter all season.

In his first season in 2016, Koger helped two Eastern Kentucky receivers rank among the top-15 in the conference in yards per reception – Devin Borders (15.40 ypr) finished eighth and Ryan Markush (13.58 ypr) ranked 14th.  Borders was also seventh in the OVC in receptions per game and eighth in yards per game.  Markush finished the season 11th in the league in yards per game.

With Koger’s help the offense put 60 points on the board as the Colonels tied the school record for points in a game during a 67-30 victory at Austin Peay.

For the season, EKU finished among the top-50 teams in the nation in offensive yards (399.1 ypg) and was 32nd in passing offense at 247.6 yards per game.  Eastern’s offense totaled 400 or more yards in a game five times in 2016.

In Koger’s second season, EKU’s receivers helped quarterback Tim Boyle throw for 2,134 yards, the fifth most ever in one season in program history.  As a team in 2017, EKU led the OVC in passing and completion percentage.  Markush earned All-OVC honors after finishing second in the conference in touchdown receptions and third in receiving yards.

Koger, a former co-captain at the University of Michigan, spent the 2015 season at Tennessee serving in the role of quality control coach.  He helped UT to a 9-4 record in 2015 and a second place finish in the Southeastern Conference East Division with a 5-3 mark.  It was Tennessee's first winning record in SEC play since 2007.

During the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Koger was a graduate assistant at Michigan.  He worked closely with the Vols’ offensive line and wide receivers after assisting the Wolverines’ tight ends coach and special teams coordinator.

Koger earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Michigan in 2012.

“Kevin is a bright and energetic coach,” Head Coach Mark Elder said.  “He is an outstanding leader, having been a team captain at Michigan.  He is doing a tremendous job developing our wide receivers on and off the field.”
