Matthew Amburgey was added to the EKU coaching staff ahead of Spring practice in 2024 as a specialists assistant.
Amburgey came to Richmond from Carroll University in Wisconsin where he served as the running backs coach in 2023.
In his one season with the Pioneers, the team rushed for 1,518 yards on 326 attempts for an average of four yards per attempt and 131.3 yards per game on the ground. As a unit, Carroll rushed for 17 total touchdowns as well.
Prior to his time in Wisconsin, Amburgey served as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator at Kentucky Wesleyan across four seasons.
Before that he served in a similar role for two years at his alma mater Kentucky State where he had previously been a running backs coach from 2013-16.
A native of Frankfort, Ky., Amburgey earned his bachelor's degree from Kentucky State in 2015, before earning his Master's at Western Kentucky one year later.
