Spencer Patterson joined the EKU coaching staff as the special teams quality control coach in July of 2016.  Since the summer of 2017 he has served as an offensive quality control coach.
 
In 2016, Eastern Kentucky had the top rated punting unit in the conference and one of the best in the nation.  Eastern led the Ohio Valley Conference in net punting (41.19 ypp) and punt return defense (2.5 ypp).  The Colonels ranked third and fourth in the nation in those categories as well.
 
In 2017, quarterback Tim Boyle threw for 2,134 yards, the fifth most ever in one season in program history.  As a team, EKU led the OVC in passing and completion percentage.

Before coming to Eastern Kentucky, Patterson coached at Provo High School in Provo, Utah for three seasons while he completed a bachelor’s degree in exercise science at Utah Valley University.

While coaching at Provo, Patterson worked as an offensive line coach and defensive coordinator for the varsity and sophomore teams.

Between 2007 and 2011, Patterson played several positions on the offensive line at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah.
