Fifth-year assistant coach Ted Hotaling came to Eastern Kentucky from Yale, where he served as a full-time assistant to head coach James Jones for four seasons. His main duties at EKU include working with the guard players and coordinating all of the recruiting efforts.
Hotaling began his coaching career at Adelphi in 1998-99. After spending a year with the Panthers, he moved on to Yale as a volunteer assistant for the 1999-00 campaign. In between stints at Yale, Hotaling worked for one year as a full time assistant coach at the University of New Haven.
Hotaling played collegiate basketball at Albany, and helped lead the Great Danes to an Elite Eight appearance in the 1994 NCAA Division III Tournament. During his senior year of 1994-95, Hotaling served as the team’s captain and helped guide the team into the second round of the Division III national tourney.
The native of Niverville, N.Y., went on to play professionally in Europe for the Cardiff Phoenix Basketball Club in Cardiff, Wales, and the Plymouth Rotolok Raiders in Plymouth, England.
Hotaling earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from Albany in 1995, and went on to garner a master’s in sports management and administration from Adelphi.

“I got a slam dunk with Ted,” coach Neubauer said. “He had been the recruiting coordinator at Yale for four years. Recruiting student-athletes at Yale meant not being bound by any one territory when you’re out looking for players, so he can go all over the country to find talented players to bring to Eastern Kentucky.”
Hotaling and his wife, Keely Garden, have two children – Owen and Susan. They reside in Richmond.
