Biography
Player Profile – Maio is one of the true leaders on the team … will contend for plenty of playing time as a junior … one of the few experienced veterans on the squad.
2011-12 (Sophomore) – Won the Volunteer singles bracket at the 2011 Tennessee Fall Invitational … captured the title with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 decision over Davidson’s Kevin Moore … rallied from one set down to defeat Jacksonville’s Matt Hansen and clinch a 4-3 team win on March 7 … finished 5-1 in OVC singles play, mainly at No. 5 singles.
2010-11 (Freshman) – Joined the EKU team in the spring of 2011 … finished 8-2 in dual singles matches, mainly at No. 6 singles … rallied for a three-set win at Stetson over spring break trip.
Off the Court – Serving on EKU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2012-13 … climbed all the way to No. 2 in the Portugal junior rankings and No. 23 in the senior rankings … he is focused on improvement in all aspects of his tennis game … wants to help the Colonels reach another NCAA tournament … also participated in judo in high school … earned six ATP doubles points … in his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, hanging out with friends and playing soccer.
