Sara Piepho

Sara Piepho enters her second season at EKU. Last year Piepho served as the Lady Colonels’ Director of Basketball Operations before being elevated to an assistant coaching position during the season.

“Sara Piepho comes from a huge basketball family as her dad is a long time successful high school coach in Michigan and her brother is a successful AAU coach,” EKU Head Coach Larry Joe Inman said. “All she has known has been successful basketball as she herself played at the University of Cincinnati. She brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to our program.”

Piepho came to Eastern Kentucky from the University of Cincinnati where she spent three years as a member of the women’s basketball team before serving as a student assistant coach and director of operations. During her playing career, Piepho played in 24 games as the Bearcats captured the Conference USA title in 2002 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in both 2002 and 2003.

Piepho was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in each of her four years at Cincinnati.

During the 2005-06 season, Piepho served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Howell High School, where she worked with Howell’s head coach Lee Piepho, her father. She helped lead the team to a district championship. Piepho also served as an assistant coach for the Livingston Sting, an AAU team.

A four-year starter at Howell, Piepho was a three-time all-state selection and four-time All-Kensington Valley Conference first team honoree. In 2000 she was listed among the top-250 players in the nation by the All-Star Girl’s Report.

Piepho earned her bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Cincinnati in 2005.
