Eastern Kentucky University promoted Johnna Fouch to a full time assistant coaching position in August 2015.
Fouch is in her fifth season with Eastern and her fourth as a full time assistant. Fouch served as Eastern’s graduate assistant coach in 2014 after concluding a stellar career at San Diego State University.

In her first season with the Colonels, she helped the team to their first 20-win campaign since 2005 and a third place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference. In 2016, Fouch tutored setter Rachel Woody, the OVC Freshman of the Year.
“Johnna has the perfect skill set for what we are doing,” EKU Head Coach Lori Duncan said. “Johnna has the perfect mentality for coaching, it’s in her blood. All of her family have been involved in athletics.”
Fouch’s responsibilities include recruiting, scouting, video exchange, and on the court coaching, including working specifically with the team’s setters.
"I've really enjoyed this great experience coaching at EKU these last five years," Fouch stated. "I've loved watching this program grow into wat it has become today. As a coach, it's a true blessing to watch these girls develop into bright young women and excel int he classroom and on the court. I am very grateful and honored to have been alongside Coach Duncan in her last five years of coaching. She has taught me how to be a better coach and the true meaning behind the history of EKU Volleyball. Coach Duncan's legacy here at Eastern Kentucky University is one I intend to carry on throughout my coaching career."
The Redlands, California native was a two-time Mountain West All-Conference selection and was chosen as the league’s setter of the year twice. Following her junior season, Fouch earned honorable mention All-America honors and was an All-West Region selection by the AVCA.
She led the Mountain West Conference in assists (11.84 per set) as a sophomore and finished third as a junior (10.88 per set). Fouch helped San Diego State capture the 2012 Mountain West championship and earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. She was chosen as the team MVP as a sophomore and a senior.
“I usually don’t reach too far outside the EKU family for staff, but Johnna was an exception to that rule,” said Duncan.
Fouch received a bachelor’s of arts in communication from SDSU in 2014 and master's of sport administration from Eastern Kentucky in 2016.
After her senior season at San Diego State, Fouch was selected to participate in the European Global Challenge with the Mountain West All-Star Team. The squad captured the bronze medal at the event.
“Her accomplishments on the court, her experiences in the Mountain West and internationally is an asset to our team, especially our setters,” Duncan said.
