Former Eastern Kentucky University All-American Liz (Guard) Sellers returned to her alma mater as the assistant volleyball coach in August 2010.  Sellers led the Colonels to back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference regular season championships in 2004 and 2005.  She helped the team advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2004 and garnered honorable mention All-America honors as a senior in 2005.

The former Colonel has helped Eastern advance to the OVC tournament in three of her four seasons on the bench.
 
The Willoughby, Ohio native was a three-time first team All-OVC selection during her four-year career at EKU.  In addition to earning All-America honors following her senior season, Sellers was also selected to the All-Midwest Region first team.  She averaged 4.22 kills and 1.12 blocks per set in 2005.  She finished second in the OVC for hitting percentage (.341) and also ranked third in the league in kills and blocks per set.  As a junior she contributed 3.90 kills and 1.23 blocks per set, leading the OVC in hitting percentage (.387) and blocks per set.

“I’m excited to have Liz in our program,” said head coach Lori Duncan.  “Her experiences as a successful student-athlete and coach are a great addition to our staff.  As a former Colonel, Liz has a strong connection to this program.  She’s familiar with the history and tradition of EKU volleyball and will work diligently to continue that tradition.”

“I’m honored and proud to be a part of EKU volleyball,” Sellers said.  “I learned so much from coach Duncan and this program as a student-athlete here, and now I truly look forward to giving back to it.”

Sellers began her coaching career in 2006 when she accepted the assistant volleyball coaching position at the University of Tulsa.  In one season with the team, she helped the Golden Hurricane capture the program’s first Conference USA regular season championship.  Tulsa finished the season 27-6 overall and a 13-3 in C-USA.

After one season at Tulsa, Sellers returned to Ohio to be the marketing director for the National Association of Seed & Venture Funds.  In September 2007, she accepted the marketing director position for Mind & Body Fitness in Beachwood, Ohio.  That fall, Sellers stepped back into coaching, serving as assistant coach at Beaumont High.
 
A year later, in June 2008, Sellers became the program director at the Parisi Speed School in Brecksville, Ohio.  Her duties included coaching athletes seven years and older using the Parisi Speed School training system.  She also created a training protocol specifically for volleyball athletes.  She held this position until rejoining the EKU program.

While working at the Parisi Speed School, Sellers took over as the head coach at Solon High School, coaching the Comets in 2008 and 2009.

Sellers ranks high on numerous EKU records lists.  She holds the program record with a .311 career hitting percentage.  She has the fourth most kills (1,516) and third most solo blocks (169) in school history.  She ranks ninth on Eastern’s career total attacks (3,485) list and ninth on the block assists (292) list.  She owns the top two single season hitting percentage performances – .387 in 2004 and .341 in 2005.  Sellers’ 449 kills in 2004 and 447 kills in 2003 rank eighth and ninth respectively in Colonel history.  Her 57 solo blocks in 2004 and 52 solo blocks in 2005 rank sixth and ninth respectively.

Sellers earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Eastern Kentucky in 2006.  The former Liz Guard is married to former EKU baseball player Neil Sellers.  Neil set school record for career hits and RBIs.  He was drafted by the Houston Astros in 2004 and also played in the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins organizations.
