Andrew Stepp, who spent four seasons as the head coach at McKendree University, joined the EKU baseball program as an assistant coach in July of 2024.
As an assistant with the Colonels, Stepp assists with the hitters and base running while coaching the outfielders.
“I’m excited for the addition of Andrew Stepp to our staff,” EKU Head Coach Walt Jones said. “Andrew is an outstanding person who will immediately build connections with our current players and on the recruiting trail with future Colonels. His coaching experience will be an asset to our program.”
From 2019 to 2023, Stepp served as the head coach at McKendree, overseeing the school’s varsity and junior varsity programs. In 2022, he guided the Bearcats to the third-most wins in McKendree’s NCAA Division II era. The team went 15-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the first time the program posted a winning conference record in its D-II era.
During the 2023 season, Stepp tutored a pair of All-Midwest Region selections in Katom Parnell and Joey Kossina. In 2022 the team set a new program record for home runs, and Joseph Copeland and Corey Price earned all-region recognition.
Academically, the Bearcats maintained a grade-point-average above 3.0 as a team during each of Stepp’s four seasons as the head coach. The program had a total of 168 Academic All-GLVC honorees.
Stepp served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at McKendree during the 2019 season. In 2018, he was an assistant at Murray State University. Stepp was the director of operations and player development at Ohio University in 2017. He was part of a Bobcat program that won the Mid-American Conference Tournament and played in the NCAA Lexington Regional.
During the 2016-17 academic year, Stepp was a physical education teacher and head baseball coach at Walnut Grove High School in Missouri.
Stepp earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Western Kentucky University in 2016. The Nixa, Missouri native played two seasons at WKU after beginning his playing career at Southwest Baptist University.
