Macy Reihing, who played at Tates Creek High School in Lexington, and collegiately at Ohio University, joined the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball program as assistant coach/director of operations in June of 2023.

In the past two seasons, Reihing has helped the Colonels to a 42-19 record and back-to-back 20-win campaigns for the first time since 2004 and 2005.

In 2024, Josie Schmitendorf was chosen as the 2024 ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a total of six Colonels earned All-ASUN honors.  In addition, Sarah Mitchell became the first player since 2013 to record more than 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.  Emilee Hill became the first EKU player since 2018 to record a triple-double, and finished with five of them in 2024.  Carson Ledford’s .379 attack percentage is the second-best single season hitting percentage in program history.

The Colonels were just as successful in the classroom.  Schmitendorf and Ledford were selected to the Academic All-ASUN Team.  Four players earned Academic All-District recognition and the team posted a 3.679 grade-point-average during the fall of 2024, the highest fall GPA on record for the program.

In 2023, Reihing was part of a staff that led the team to:  21 wins (tied for the most since the 2005 season), a 13-match winning streak (tied for the longest in program history), the first national postseason tournament appearance since 2004 (the 2023 NIVC), the first top three conference finish since 2014 and a program record seven straight shutout victories.

Individually, four Colonels were honored for their outstanding performances in 2023.  Ledford, Mitchell, Schmitendorf and AG Vandagriff earned All-ASUN honors.

“I’m excited to have Macy as part of our staff and program,” EKU Head Coach Johnna Bazzani said.  “She came from a great volleyball background and her skill set is helping grow the program.”

Reihing played four seasons at Ohio.  As a freshman in 2017, the libero/defensive specialist recorded 484 digs.  Her average of 4.14 digs per set ranked ninth in the Mid-American Conference.  She tallied 20 or more digs in a match seven times that season, including 32 in a 3-2 win over Bowling Green.  During her sophomore season in 2018, Reihing totaled 532 digs and averaged 4.61 per set, ninth-most in the MAC again.  She finished with 33 digs against Samford.

In 2019, as a junior Reihing concluded the season with 488 digs.  She was eighth in the MAC with 4.77 per set.  Her dig totals as a freshman, sophomore and junior ranked as the 10th, seventh and ninth-most respectively in program history during the rally scoring era.  She concluded her career with another 194 digs and was third on the team with 12 aces as a senior in 2020.

Reihing helped the Commodores of Tates Creek High School win three straight district championships and to three straight region runner-up finishes.

From July to November 2021, Reihing was the volleyball head coach at Athens Middle School in Athens, Ohio.  She has also worked camps through the years at Ohio University and the All-American Volleyball Camps in the Midwest Region.

Reihing earned a bachelor’s degree in communications at Ohio in May 2022.  She was a member of the All-MAC Academic Team three times.
