COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky lost the series finale to Tennessee Tech, 12-4 in six innings, Sunday in Cookeville, Tenn. The Golden Eagles (24-29, 8-11 OVC) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Colonels (26-18, 15-9 OVC) cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth inning but couldn’t get any closer.
TTU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. Run scoring singles by Katie Betry and Amanda Glover contributed to the early lead. Stephanie Fischer’s sacrifice fly in the second inning made it 4-0 in favor of the home team.
An RBI double by Amber Lenz in the third and a sacrifice fly by Kalyn Fox in the fourth cut the deficit to 4-2. However, Tennessee Tech responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and never looked back. The Golden Eagles scored all four runs on back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles by Katie Speiser, Betry, Glover and Kerilyn Mongar.
Betry finished 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. Speiser went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs. Lenz had two hits in three at bats, a run scored and one RBI for the Colonels.
Jenn Bledsoe (5-6) suffered the loss after allowing four runs, two of which were earned, on three hits in two and one-third innings. She walked five batters and struck out one. Sarah Street (13-16) picked up the victory after scattering six hits over five innings and allowing four runs.
The Colonels will conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule when they host the University of Louisville on Wednesday. The single game will get underway at 4 p.m.
