RICHMOND, Ky. – For the third consecutive year, the Eastern Kentucky University football team begins OVC action on the road as the Colonels travel to #25 Tennessee State this Saturday. Game time is set for 6 p.m. ET.
Eastern Kentucky (1-2) has won eight straight meetings in the series against Tennessee State (3-0) and held the Tigers to a season-low seven points last year. However, Tennessee State’s offense has been very productive through the first three games this season, averaging 36 points per contest.
One player to keep an eye on this weekend is running back
C.J. Walker. The junior carried the ball 10 times for a personal-high 138 yards versus Tennessee State in 2007. Walker recorded his first rushing touchdown of the year last week against Morehead State, a 17-yard scamper in the third quarter.
Tiger senior quarterback Antonio Heffner leads the OVC in total offense per game, averaging 293 combined yards passing and rushing. Heffner threw for 137 yards and ran for an additional 48 yards in the 41-18 win over Jackson State last Saturday. One year ago, Heffner suffered an injury during the EKU game and wound up missing the rest of the year.
